RNLI Pursuit Race
The first “official”race of the season went off with a bang today, with over fifteen entrants battling against a stiff south westerly force 5/6. First away at 13:43 looking fast was the Cornish Shripmer of Mark Llewellen with all the hopes of the bridge crew wishing her well for an upset of the normal. Then the starts went through the Loch Longs at 14:00 as usual, the largest fleet and others with Ian Robson and Chris Johnson away last in their K6. A longish beat down river with the tide to pump was followed by a fast run back to Q mark off the club much to the pleasure of the watching crowd with some very tight rounding including LL126 Meg just squeezing through 121 Iona on the mark.
Then a further batch of Loch Longs and the Laser radial in hot pursuit.
Ari Liddell in Zimmer with her new colour scheme
and eventually the pair of Flying Fifteens .
After 90 minutes the appointed finish time arrived and Terry Hacker still had a good lead in his Laser Radial to take the gun from Ian and Chris in the K6
Overall entrants raised £240 for the local RNLI. It was great to finally see the clubhouse open again and thanks must go to Karen and the staff for making it happen, but especially Ged, Kay, Susie and the social team for stepping in to the breach with the catering and David Trower and his team for running the racing.
