Optimists at Aldeburgh
Optimists are very popular at Aldeburgh, with many AYC junior sailors first learning to sail them on the RYA courses which are run by the Yacht Club.

There are many Club races in which the Optimists have their own start, particularly during the AYC Junior Regatta. This is always a great event with lots of fun both on and off the water.

The Optimist Open is also very enjoyable. Sailors come from all over the eastern region to enjoy the racing on the tidal River Alde. Numbers permitting, there will be both Gold and Silver fleets. For those in your family who do not sail, Aldeburgh has a lot to offer.  AYC is right on the beach and is within an easy stroll of the town with its art galleries, shops and restaurants. Make it a day out for the whole family.

For those not yet ready to race or who would like to improve the way they sail, there are junior training sessions for Club members at 10:00 on most Sundays from May until the end of August where Optimists and other junior boats, such as Mirrors, Toppers and the occasional Laser Radial, congregate to have fun and learn some tips from the more experienced sailors.

From the middle of July, two RYA instructors are appointed to concentrate on the juniors and from then on there is sailing almost every day until the end of August. There are two series of Optimist races run throughout the months of July and August. We also get onshore training and advice in our junior clubroom.

We look forward to seeing you at AYC Opi events soon!
