Season Opening Weekend

What a fantastic weekend the final weekend of March proved to be. Glorious weather over the Alde on Saturday afternoon for the first race of the Spring guaranteed a great turn out in all fleets. With a heavily port biased start line the second start Loch Long class were cautious having witnessed the predecescing fast handicap start which saw lots of shouting at the club end and the club treasurer aground! Matt Lingley did a sterling job of proving the speed of rear commodore’s Loch Long by helming her to pole position at the first windward mark, only to find the mud a leg later. A good turn out of Lasers would have no doubt enjoyed more breeze, but were heard to be asking each other about course directions mid race!

later in the evening, RYA eastern region rules guru Graham Louth gave his ever informative racing rules refresher seminar and caught out most of the pros on rules technicalities, with his video quiz. All accompanied by a fantastic supper from Steven and Rebecca.

we look forward to seeing you on the water next weekend or in the spectator gallery when the International Canoes will be holding their eagerly anticipated season opening meeting at Aldeburgh – surely not one to be missed!
