Great start to the racing season at AYC. The boatboys have done a great job preparing the infrastructure for us, pontoon set up, racing marks (including speed notices!) laid and getting our boats launched – well done and thank you.
A hive of activity in the car park and the dinghy park indicated there would be a good turnout. The usual suspects appeared, hardly recognisable, almost in fancy dress, in various colours of waterproofs and hats. Well wrapped up aware the forecast has been pretty accurate over the past few days it was going to be cold. (Note the new weather station on the much improved website)
One K6, three Flying Fifteens, seven Loch Longs and two Single handed dinghies made the full compliment of starts. Applause for Ben Davies, the OOD who set great courses and the bridge team for their sterling work.
Courses were:
H’cap fast - XMXSX
Loch Long - XMXCH
H’cap slow – XMXCH
Results will be posted shortly on the website - the Loch Longs had a fiercely fought battle with places changing throughout. Epic mistakes were made; Tantrum taking the wrong course, very typical and Fiona running aground, a very rare occurrence. But leading from the front (for almost the whole race) was Trya, hotly pursued by all the others!
It was not as cold as expected and all returned safely ashore well warmed by their exertions and very, very pleased to be back racing – but all stay safe, follow the advise for distancing and see you all (and more) next Saturday.
